Founder of the architecture and interior design firm CL3, William Lim wears many hats. Not only is he a designer, architect, art collector and artist, but also now a curator. The architect will curate his first exhibition with gallery Tang Contemporary Art for Lam Tung Pang’s first solo show “Planting Time,” which will run from July 7 through 30.The name of the exhibition refers to Lam Tung Pang’s thoughts on the passing of time and the connection between past and present. The artist explores the transformation of an object or an idea’s value over time – whether it bears a complete different meaning or simply becomes obsolete. Time is a recurring theme in Lim’s art collection as well. The architect said in a statement that “[Lam] uses a tense in English grammar as the work title [“Past Continuous Tense”] to reference the relationship between materials and time simultaneously; the schematization of its artistic language is also likened to text-imagery, in a series of chapters”.Lam’s previous work “Past Continuous Tense,” 2011, is an ideal representation of his creative progress. The Hong Kong-based artist appropriates an earlier abandoned idea to draw on plywood, resulting in a 16-meter-long drawing of a wildfire. This work consequently inspired William Lim to name the exhibition “Planting Time.”Lam Tung Pang is a contemporary artist whose works mostly relate to particular social situations and contexts. His artworks are included in some of the most popular art institutions in Hong Kong, including leading public and private museums such as M+, K11 Art Foundation, Deutsche Bank, Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Burger Collection.“Planting Time” will run from July 7-30 at Tang Contemporary Art Hong Kong.
