Pearl Lam Galleries is the next leading Asian gallery to take up a space at William Lim’s new 24-story development H Queen’s, set to be completed by mid-2017. The new gallery location will open in March 2018, adding to its two other branches in Hong Kong in SoHo and the historic Pedder Building, as well as in Shanghai and Singapore.H Queen’s is envisioned as an artistic and lifestyle venue, which will play host to a mix of studios, galleries, and restaurants. Designed by Lim, an architect who collects and understands art, its floors will range from 4,000 to 6,000 square feet, facilitating the movement of artworks in and out of the building. According to Lim, it is an ideal space for art galleries.Space for art in Hong Kong is extremely limited. Pearl Lam stresses that this new venture “will push the boundaries of the art that can be showcased in the city, through its purpose-built design and the conveniences of its location.” Situated in the heart of Central — which is set to become Hong Kong’s next art hub — the gallery's new space in H Queen’s will aid its commitment to representing its roster of emerging artists. Further, owing to the space’s design, its focus will be on showcasing more large-scale and sculptural works by a wider range of artists.“H Queen’s is an incredibly exciting development for Hong Kong’s art scene,” said Pearl Lam in statement. “I am also extremely pleased that Pearl Lam Galleries is again expanding and taking a place here alongside other world-renowned and distinguished galleries.”Pearl Lam Galleries will join other prominent galleries such as Pace, Seoul Auction, Whitestone Gallery, as well as David Zwirner, which announced in June that it will soon open its first outpost in Asia. It is the “anchor tenant” of the building, renting out two floors, which evidently signals confidence towards the prospects of Asia’s art market in the long term.
