Galerie St. Etienne, New York, will host an exhibition titled “YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION: American Artists and the Communist Party” from October 18, 2016, through February 11, 2017.The exhibition explores the political climate during the 1930s and 1940s and the involvement of American artists during that time. The exhibition features more than 60 paintings, drawings, woodcuts and prints by leading artists who desired political changes and economic stability during and after the Great Depression. The exhibition segregates the works on display according to six prevailing themes: The Democratic Process, Fat Cats and Workers, The Unemployed, Race, Demonstrations, and War and Peace. Among the artists exhibited in the show are Leonard Baskin, Stuart Davis, Philip Evergood, Hugo Gellert, William Gropper, Louis Lozowick, Ben Shahn, Raphael Soyer and Lynd Ward. Along with these, contemporary work by Sue Coe, a New York-based artist, who deals with contemporary socio-political subjects, will also be displayed along the works of artists who have inspired her.The exhibition is on view at Galerie St. Etienne, 24 W 57th St #802, New York, NY 10019, United States.
