Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA), New York, will be hosting a joint exhibition 'Georgio de Chirico- Giulio Paolini/ Guilio Paolini- Georgio de Chirico' that will be on view from October 14, 2016 through June 24, 2017.The exhibition explores the connection between the works by two great Italian artists from two different centuries - the founder of Metaphysical paintings, Georgio de Chirico (1888-1978), and leading conceptual artist Giulio Paolini (born 1940). The exhibition presents major metaphysical masterpieces by de Chirico that have not been exhibited in the US for half a century, along with installation, sculptures, photography on canvas, plaster, collage, and a new series of works on paper by Paolini created especially for this exhibition. By juxtaposing the seminal works by these two artists, the exhibition offers a tribute to de Chirico’s art and its visible relevance for artistic movements in the contemporary times through the presentations of Paolini’s works.'Georgio de Chirico- Giulio Paolini/ Guilio Paolini- Georgio de Chirico' presents works by de Chirico and Paolini in three groupings, focussing on themes that are commonly fundamental to their respective practices: the enigma, the self-portrait and the idea of the ‘double’, and the manipulation of subjects from classical antiquity. The exhibition will be on view at Center for Italian Modern Art, 421 Broome Street, New York, NY 10013, United States.
