James Guppy’s “Counterpoint” will be on display at Brenda May Gallery, Waterloo from October 29 through November 24, 2016.“Counterpoint” is a relationship between two voices, independent in rhythm and contour that come together in a harmonic inter-dependence. For the past few years, as the artist notes, his works have been driven by an inner malaise and dissatisfaction with the “way things are,” the status-quo, the acceptable. He is now returning to his favoured theme: the body and intimacy. Playing with the rhythms and textures of cherished human bodies, the artist transforms lovers at play into a cantata of forms. “The paintings are a celebration of flesh and touch…the essence of our being.” – James Guppy, 2016.James Guppy: Counterpoint will be on display at Brenda May Gallery, 2 Danks Street, Waterloo NSW 2017.For details, visit: http://www.brendamaygallery.com.auClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
