“Why I Want to Fuck Donald Trump”, an exhibition curated by Alfred Steiner, is on display at Joshua Liner Gallery and will continue run through November 12, 2016.The exhibition is thematically tied to JG Ballard’s essay with a similar title, “Why I Want to Fuck Ronald Reagan,” which in some ways predicted both Reagan’s presidency, and also Trump’s candidacy. The satirical visual discussion of Ballard’s work addresses a rather critical aspect of political discourse: the link between politicians and the over-sexualised cult of the celebrities. The sensationalism of the surrounding politics, which is clearly crystallised in this election, is used as a thematic by many artists for this exhibition, exposing the fragility and fantasy we apply to politicians and celebrities. The “constructed truth” is encouraged to be dismantled, and the “real truth” must be looked upon, intently, is what the artists say. The works are a critique of the dangerous political climate that welds politicians and celebrities as one.The exhibition is on display at Joshua Liner Gallery, 540 West 28th Street, New York, NY 10001.
