Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (MPRG), Melbourne, is hosting the unique exhibition called 'Salon des Refusés', on view through November 20, 2016.In 1863, Napoleon lll made famous the tradition behind 'Salon des Refusés' in Paris. The idea was to put on public display works that were rejected by the Academy for that year’s Salon, for the public to view and judge. The very first Salon des Refusés included works by Edouard Manet and Camille Pissarro. Following Napoleon's footsteps the Salon des Refusés exhibition was initiated by the S.H. Ervin Galley 25 years ago, in Australia, to display works not chosen for the official exhibition. The prized selection of the humorous, innovative, mad, bad and dangerous entries for this exhibition includes portraits of arts and entertainment personalities such as Osher Gunsberg, David Walsh AO, Jean Kittson, Paul Capsis, Katie Noonan, Maria Venuti and indigenous film maker Warwick Thornton. The exhibition is on view at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Civic Reserve, Dunns Road, Mornington, Melbourne VIC 3931, Australia.
