Hauser & Wirth in New York is hosting an exhibition “Raw Spinoffs Continuations” by Paul McCarthy that will be on view through January 14, 2017.“Raw Spinoffs Continuations” is an exhibition of sculptures by one of the most important and influential American artist Paul McCarthy, featuring works from his most vital projects of the last 15 years, including ‘WS’, ‘Caribbean Pirates’, and ‘Pig Island’, celebrating the artist’s distinctive process of making and un-making of an artwork. The exhibition presents a new series of bronze ‘White Snow Dwarfs’ which is presented alongside the original clay structures they were cast, vividly illustrating the roles of repetition and variation visible in McCarthy’s oeuvre. Also on view in the exhibition is the large-scale installation ‘Chop Chop, Chopper, Amputation’ from McCarthy’s ‘Caribbean Pirates’ series. Inspired by the Disneyland attraction ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. The installation is a merge between a pair of individual large-scale works in the series, based on two drawings by McCarthy, ‘Chopper’ and ‘Amputation’, which were intended to be presented independently from each other. Along with this installation, the exhibition also includes ‘Amputation (AMP), Blue Fiberglass’, a blue fiberglass cast that has never been exhibited before. The exhibition concludes with ‘Paula Jones’ and ‘Puppet’, both generated from McCarthy’s huge celebrated opus ‘Pig Island’, combining political figures and elements drawn from pop culture, becoming a surreal compilation of themes that have coursed through McCarthy’s works for decades. The exhibition is on view at Hauser & Wirth, 511 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011, USA.
