Last chance to visit Galerie Matignon for its exhibition featuring works by the American-born painter Zuka that ends soon on February 2, 2017.Zuka was born in Los Angeles in 1924 and passed away this year on December 18, at the age of 92. At the age of 18, she entered the race of the American avant-gardes, is exhibited at Estella Katzenellenbogen and becomes friends with Joan Mitchell. She arrived in France at the end of the 40s, "to gain in culture" and studies at the Academy of Grande-Chaumière. The American painter, married to a Frenchman (the draftsman Tim), of Russian origin (his real name Zenaida Gourievna Booyakovitch) is concerned with the detail and the simplification of the drawing. The animals are humanized, embracing an almost animistic approach. She draws her collages with scissors without previous work, as Matisse did at the end of her life. Recalling Fauvism, by the use of brilliant colors and the simplification of forms, it transmits above all a painting full of life, movement and joy.The exhibtition is at Galerie Matignon, 29-33 av. Matignon, 75008 Paris. For details, visit: http://francoiselivinec.com/en Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
