Nnenna Okore’s ‘Osimili’ at Jenkins Johnson Gallery, San Francisco

“Osimili” an exhibition of works by Nigerian artist Nnenna Okore started on June 1 and will run through July 15, 2017, at Jenkins Johnson Gallery, San Francisco.The selection of works on display features textured wall sculptures from recycled materials by Okore. Highlighting the complex dynamism of our cosmic existence through the use of organic elements in nature, such as roots, veins, and flora the artist uses animistic force that breathes life into her creations. Through the evolution of her works in the last decade, Nnenna Okore oeuvre continues to reveal the uniquely diverse and tactile characteristics of our shared physical world.Nnenna Okore (b. 1975, Australia) is an artist known largely for her abstract sculptures inspired by textures, colors, and forms within her immediate setting.Finding reusable value in discarded materials, Okore enriches her work with layers of meaning through familiar and painstaking processes. She is a Professor of Art at Chicago’s North Park University, where she chairs the Art Department and teaches Sculptural Practices. Okore is a 2012 Fulbright Award recipient, along with numerous national and international awards.   She participated in over a hundred solo and group exhibitions over the last decade.
