‘Buffalo Warrior’ at Patrick Painter Inc., Santa Monica

Patrick Painter Gallery presents Chaz Guest’s new series of paintings titled ‘Buffalo Warrior’.Chaz Guest (born May 2, 1961) is an American artist who works in the forms of painting and sculpting. The Huffington Post described him as "an American artist of profound inventiveness." Guest holds a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design from Southern Connecticut State University. He received a Gymnastic scholarship to go to the Southern Connecticut State University, to study Kinesiology and pursue a degree in Graphic Arts. S.C.S.U. Then, Guest moved to New York City to enrol in a fashion design curriculum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. It was here that he honed his formal skills in drawing. From here there was no looking back for him. He soon moved to Paris to work as a freelance fashion illustrator. Guest drew his inspiration from the paintings of Pablo Picasso, Balthus and Salvador Dali. His first exhibit was a group show titled "Decoding Identity: I Do it for My People" in 2009, at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco. It was in the year 2007, while Guest was a visitor at the home of Michael and Mattie Lawson in Los Angeles, that he saw President Barack Obama interacting with guests. This certain image stayed back with the artist and inspired him to make a painting of the President. During a fund raiser at Oprah Winfrey’s home the President himself saw the painting and was greatly impressed. Some of the Guest’s other notable works are the paintings of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, that hung in the Oval Office of White House while Obama was President and a portrait of Gambian president Yahya Jammeh.Guest also created two paintings, in a bid to help the family of Trayvon Martin, an African-American teenager who was killed in an incident in Florida in 2012. He donated the proceeds from the painting’s sale to Martin’s Family.
