Gallery Loupe presents “A Fine Line,” the solo exhibition of German artist Doris Betz comprising her latest jewelry and drawings along with pieces from “Doris Betz: Jewellery and Drawings” in New Jersey.Betz’s jewelry is based on nature – flowers, fruits, plants, and pods. Her elongated pendants are made up of beads of oxidized silver, quartz or ceramic, resembling seeds; a necklace is adorned by small buds of greyish silver, silver, and gold. The stick pins are flying Moths and butterflies, their wings are created using intricately designed bits of silver previously rejected by Betz, and now she infused into them new life by squeezing them through a press.Betz’s work is often based on fine lines; be it hanging tendrils, plants with interlinking branches or wavy scrolls, everything she makes is very graceful. Her jewellery often resemble three-dimensional drawings– whose lines are made up from thin wire or narrow ribbons of silver – often chemically paginated or colored with lacquer. Necklaces and bracelets are made up of tiny metal spirals, which form loops, nests, and knots that give them a fine curvature. Rings are formed by calligraphic twists of silver wire. Betz’s jewelry reflect her strong theoretical understanding of art and gives the wearer certain elegance. Betz was awarded graduate degree (1996) from the famous Akademie der Bildenden Künste München, where she studied with both Hermann Jünger and Otto Künzli. From 2006-2009 she was Otto Künzli’s assistant in the program. There have been some solo exhibitions to her credit, most recent of them was Schmuck und Zeichnung (Jewellery and drawings), Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein München, Germany (2017). Her works have been showcased in numerous group shows including Private Confessions: Drawing and Jewellery, CODA Museum, Apeldoorn, The Netherlands (2016) and Villa Stuck, Munich (2017).  Munich has regularly witnessed her works since 1996 in exhibitions namely Lack, Galerie Handwerk (2015); Schmuck, Internationale Handwerksmesse (2012, 2010 and 1996); and Micromegas, Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein (2001).Betz received various prestigious awards internationally and her work is in the collection of renowned museums of Munich, Lausanne, Switzerland; Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim, Germany; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Mint Museum of Art and Design, Charlotte, North Carolina; and Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York.
