Leo Gallery, Hong Kong presents “Colors in a Breeze,” the solo exhibition of Chinese artist Zhang Xuerui, showcasing her recent oil paintings.Zhang was born in Shanxi, China and graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. She is currently living in Beijing pursuing art and creation. The main feature of Zhang’s paintings is grid-like arrangement of vivid colors which flow with a definite rhythm. The artist expresses herself through different shades which show a distinct passion and become her interaction with outside world.   To the artist, space is more important than physical existence. First, there is space, then existence. Zhang paints space through different colors. In her works, there is a beautiful blending of smoothness and distinctness, of logical and emotional. According to contemporary art researcher and critic Chiba Shigeo, “she doesn’t stress on colors; there is no emphasis on red, blue or yellow of the primary trio, no reliance on existing colors. Instead, she sees ‘colors’ as ‘emptiness,' and with this attitude and from this perspective she delves into the unlimited possibilities of art.” She creates poetry dipped in memories by a paint brush. Zhang’s artwork involves her loving memories of childhood friends and relatives which were reflected in some installation series carefully crafted and permeate profound love. Such installations made her famous internationally. The oil collection to be exhibited at Leo Gallery expresses intense emotions to be discovered by the viewers.“Colors In a Breeze” is being showcased at Leo Gallery, 189 Queen’s Rd W, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong from September 21, 2017, through November 10, 2017.For more details: http://www.leogallery.com.cn/exhibitions/53/overview/Click on the slideshow to have a sneak peek of the artist’s work.
