Zalucky Contemporary, Toronto will be presenting “And the voices came from nowhere” by Canadian contemporary artist Lee Henderson. In this exhibition, the artist has tried to decipher two meanings of spirit - one that refers to ghosts and another one that refers to alcohol. This idea formed the basis for Henderson’s explorations while in residence at the Glenfiddich Distillery during the summer of 2017 in Dufftown, Scotland. He builds on his continued investigation into how we imagine the limits of the body as he re-interprets the technologies and techniques of spirit craft. Henderson is one of only seven artists from around the world awarded this residency prize, which is one of the most sought-after residency prizes in the world of arts. The selected artists live and work at the Glenfiddich® distillery in Northern Scotland, near the historic Balvenie Castle.Henderson’s practice includes video, photography, installation, sculpture, performance, and text. His work moves in constant assessment of death and moves somewhere between the persistence of collective histories and the brevity of individual lives. He has studied art in Canada and Germany, holding a BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design (2003) and an MFA from the University of Regina (2005). He originally belongs to Saskatchewan in Canada, but he is usually based in Toronto. This exhibition runs from October 13 through November 11, 2017 at 3044 Dundas St. W.
