Paolo Tonin Contemporary Art, Turin is presenting Italian artist Enzo Gagliardino’s exhibition “The Misunderstanding of Painting."The windows are often found in many of Gagliardino’s works, and this two-dimensional geometry in a way proves that painting is certainly a flat object painted, if modernist logic can be applied to it. His work repeats a formal language where one finds the structures, chimneys, windows, and walls making regular appearances. The opaqueness of some colors contrasts with the strengthening of other shades. The larger part of his canvas is taken over by bricks whereas windows are openings that are there just for decoration and its actual purpose has been forgotten. There is absolutely no relationship with the outer world, and the viewer cannot even see inside those walls. All the moments can only be assumed or imagined with an absence of human elements. The artist is not even trying to be metaphorical here and displays a closed vision of the world sans any logic or opinion.    It is sometimes disturbing for the viewer to understand what is beyond those walls, but the artist does not want to add any new information neither does he let the viewer pick anything about existentialist philosophy. This exhibition runs through October 27, 2017, at Paolo Tonin Contemporary Art - 10122 Turin - Italy - Via San Tommaso, 6 (Palazzo della Chiesa di Roddi).
