Richard Koh Fine Art in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will soon be hosting an exhibition of works by artist Wong Perng Fey titled “Impetus.”The exhibition explores the artist’s characteristic flair for abstraction. This new series reflects a more somber feeling and the inevitable end of a journey and the promise of new beginnings. The show is an adieu as it echoes the tumultuous journey undertaken as the artist comes to terms with the eviction of the artist colony in HeiQiao village, Beijing. The large multi-paneled pieces depict Wong’s strong statements of internal struggles which is the displacement of working habits and coping mechanisms that he had developed over the years. These display his sentiments as Wong reminiscences about the ambitions that he brought with him over the seven years of his inhabitation coupled with the sense of loss and displacement of his camaraderie. The selection of works on display features six large-paneled pieces produced during his eviction and closure of HeiQiao village, Beijing where the artist had lived for the past seven years.Wong Perng Fey (b. 1974, Kuala Lumpur) is an experimental and versatile painter.
