Karin Weber Gallery, Hong Kong presents "Conversations in Ceramic," the third show in the series of "Materials in Focus," a group exhibition of four ceramic artists; emerging talents from the local Hong Kong art scene. The artists featured in the unique union of ceramics are Alice Chan (b. 1989, China), Lau Yat Wai (b. 1985, China), Ma On Yee (b. 1991, Hong Kong), and Ng Ka Ho (b. 1990, Hong Kong)Scholars of the internationally renowned Hong Kong ceramic artist Annie Wan, all the four artists, establish and express their artistic identity in a perfect cohesive form through a body of work that rhymes together coherently as it goes about reinventing the handmade ranging from creative crafts to fine arts. Each of these artists carries a unique dialogue while they explore the ceramics not only as a material also as a unique opportunity to capture and materialize their very own and personal conversations. The materiality also affects the investigations of themes, together, as diverse as a family through many shapes and forms of themes, representations of thoughts, for example, illness, mathematics, space and light and, above all, the self.Ceramic compositions are the forte of Alice Chan, who perceives art as a therapy and a part of an individual and their healing process. For example, the visually engaging ceramic spikes, prominent in her creations, appear simultaneously delicate as it spikes confrontations.Lau Yat Wai’s works subtly summon the memories attributed to objects. They portray an unmistakable air of intimacy as they go about challenging the idea of public and private spaces.Ma On Yee combines printmaking and ceramics to document the nuances of her relationship with her Alzheimer – suffering grandmother.Ng Ka Ho’s delicate installations, often using black clay, explore the materiality of objects and their relationship with space. An observer of Ng’s works cannot help but ponder the endless variations of light, shade, and movement. The exhibition is on view from January 7, 2018, through February 8, 2018, at Karin Weber Galley, 20 Aberdeen Street, Central, Hong Kong.
