Ota Fine Arts, Singapore will present Chen Wei's solo exhibition “Fresh Dewdrop”.For this exhibition, Chen has utilized different motifs from the previous exhibition turning beauty into forms which he found in his observation of the Chinese society and the people living there. The work which is of the same title as the exhibition showcases a scenery where one of the tiles is missing from an old sidewalk. Orange colored paint falls in place of missing tile by accident making it appear like a ray of light or an entrance into the black hole. This exhibition showcases sculpture works with LED boards in addition to photographs. Waves of light that appear on the screen are of varying brightness: sometimes weak lights create gradations for a while, and other times strong lights appear as if it brightens up the whole room. This rhythmical change reflects Chen's high sensitivity for music, and also makes viewers feel as if they resemble heartbeats of a living form. Chen Wei’s works have been well-received globally, characterized by still life painting-like compositions, dazzling lights and allegorical narratives within. His recent solo exhibitions include The Club, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne (2017), Chen Wei: In the Waves, Chi K11 Art Museum, Shanghai (2015).Ota Fine Arts opened a new gallery space at Gillman Barracks in Singapore in September 2012 in the hope to continue their programmes with East Asian artists including Japanese and Korean, and moreover to organize various rich collaborations with new artists from South Eastern Asia to Middle East region. The exhibition will be on view from January 13, 2018 through February 24, 2018 at Ota Fine Arts, 7 Lock Road, Gillman Barracks, Singapore. For details, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/ota-fine-arts/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
