A personal and investigative experience, created by Erez Nevi Pana, showcases itself in an exhibition coming to the Friedman Benda gallery in May. “Consciousness” is the title of the three-part show, which is coming soon to the gallery’s New York venue.Israeli designer Erez Nevi Pana’s new works titled “Consciousness” will have three series made from salt, asphalt and plant fibers that examine the impact of human interaction with the environment. By interrupting, enhancing or combining natural processes, he creates objects with the intention to reveal life forces and dormant energies and conjures up what he calls “intangible blueprints of our consciousness.” The centerpiece of the exhibition is “Bleached,” which is the product of a five-year investigation of the material applications of salt. Motivated by the devastating consequences of mineral extraction in the Dead Sea, with this series, Nevi Pana imagines a possible constructive outcome from humanity’s interference with nature. For this work, Nevi Pana submerges wooden structures encased in loofah into the Dead Sea — leaving them to crystallize like coral formations. The exhibition will be on view from May 3 through June 9, 2018, at Friedman Benda, 515 W 26th Street New York, NY 10001.For details, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/friedman-benda/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
