Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin, is hosting an exhibition of works by artists Albert Oehlen and Julian Schnabel.Both artists have deeply influenced the art field since the 1980s and are known for constantly exploring the process of painting. This duo exhibition of Oehlen and Schnabel who are companions and friends focuses on their recent bodies of work. Oehlen’s latest paintings shed light on the complex and intriguing process of overpainting. It is an elaborate interplay of broadly applied brushstrokes and overlapping layers. Thus creating an atmosphere of painterly landscapes and captivating pictorial depth. The display also includes six new paintings by Schnabel that have been made from a material used to cover an outdoor market in Mexico. These works are characterized by their unity and are distinctively individual. Yet at the same time evoking landscapes, flowers, and figures through their interweaving forms.
