With over 100 globally leading fine art photography galleries participating, the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) is all set to showcase its 38th edition of the prestigious The Photography Show in New York. The annual show offers a wide, vibrant range of work that is dedicated to the photographic medium.Featuring galleries from around the world including the US, Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East and South America, The Photography Show will exhibit a variety of museum-quality work including contemporary, modern, and 19th century photographs, photo-based art, video, and new media. Works will be presented by AIPAD members as well as new exhibitors including younger galleries, book dealers and publishers in four sections. New exhibitors this year are Beetles+Huxley, Gilles Peyroulet & Cie, Holden Luntz Gallery, IBASHO, Antwerp and Photographica FineArt Gallery. In addition to the diverse collections exhibited, The Photography Show will present three special exhibitions of private collectors. Featured this year is an exhibition from the collection of Joe Baio, which centers on the themes of childhood and adolescence with images portraying the pure joy, mischief, lack of inhibition, and the experience of puzzling changes during life’s early years. Another impactful exhibition is “A Time for Reflection” that focuses on the idea of reflection as a representation of strength in photography led by Sir Elton John. Sir John here has taken interest in curating works revolving around this idea from exhibiting AIPAD members. Thirdly, also positioning itself as a special exhibition is a collection from Photographic Center Northwest titled “All Power: Visual Legacies of the Black Panther Party.” This exhibition showcases a select group of contemporary black artists, including emerging and internationally-acclaimed ones, who have been informed or influenced by the Panthers.Other than the spectacular and substantial visual displays, AIPAD will also host “Talks” featuring prominent curators, collectors, artists, and journalists. The Photography Show will give prominence to 15 AIPAD Talks with the new addition being the series “Photography Talking Back,” which consists of 11 talks exploring topics such as immigration, racism, climate change, gender equality and “fake news.” AIPAD Talks speakers will include Susan Meiselas, Alicia Garza, Sheila Pree Bright, Teju Cole, Sarah Meister and many more.Artist book signing will also be part of the exhibitor-hosted event that is free with a valid show admission ticket and open to the public. A few of the galleries presenting this are Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Michael Hoppen Gallery, L’Artiere, Monroe Gallery of Photography, and Robert Mann Gallery, among others. The contribution of the photobook in photography is accentuated at the show as well. Here, Aperture will present a daily, in-person spotlight on individual books and publishers as part of AIPAD publisher’s area. Similarly, photographer documentaries submitted by exhibiting galleries will be featured. This is curated by award-winning filmmaker Mary Engel, Director of Orkin/Engel Film and Photo Archive. Another important highlight at the event is the AIPAD Award that honors and recognizes visionaries in their contribution to the field of photography. The honoree this year will be Keith F. Davis, Senior Curator of Photography at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.The Photography Show is on view from April 5 through April 8, 2018, at Pier 94, New York City. For details please visit: https://www.aipadshow.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the show.Founder Louise Blouin: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/artists/louise-blouin--2953510
