The French Contemporary designer François Bauchet is known for his innovations in material and form. His newest works are being showcased at Galerie kreo’s locations in both Paris and London. The solo exhibition, “Azo,” is on view in London through May 19 and in Paris through May 12. “The ‘Azo’ collection is composed of two main elements: a ‘clover’-shaped column, used vertically or horizontally as legs, and substantial surfaces of variable shapes and sizes,” the gallery says. “This new vocabulary of pure and simple forms — a recurring feature in Bauchet’s work is very graphic and sensual.” The result is a series of unique tables, benches, consoles and side tables. The new works are made from a composite material made of sand, resin and concrete. This isn’t the first time Bauchet has innovated with the materials use to make his designs. “In his ‘Cellae’ collection in 2013,” the gallery says, “he presented art pieces involving innovative elements made of felt soaked in resin.” The new material for the Azo collection produces a metallic polish to the pieces created in two colors: intense brick red and very pale gray. Also known for his versatility, Bauchet combines scenography, interior architecture and design in his work. The designer has worked on many diverse projects involving different art forms, such as the first offices of the Cartier Foundation in Jouy-en-Josas, France, the design of the Jeu de Paume Museum café in Paris and the outdoor furniture for the Azay-le-Rideau Castle grounds. He has also designed pieces for Cinna, Ligne Roset, Ercuis, Haviland and GHM.Bouchet was born in 1948 in Montluçon, France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Art in Bourges. His designs have been showcased in numerous exhibitions. In 2000, Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris held a retrospective exhibition of his work. Bauchet is involved in designing limited edition collections for Galerie kreo regularly. He has been in collaboration with the gallery since 1999. His works are included in the permanent collections of the FNAC and Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris, of the Museum of Design & Fashion in Lisbon and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.“Azo” will run through May 19, 2018, at Galerie kreo, Hay Hill, Mayfair, London W1J 8NZ, UK.For details, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/galerie-kreo/overviewClick on the slideshow to have a sneak peek of the artist’s work.
