Aye Gallery is currently hosting a dual exhibition by Bob Bonies from the Netherlands and Chen Wenji from China. Though the two artists live in different places geographically, “but their art shares the same thinking basis, which is the art of logics," says the gallery.Born in 1937, Bob Bonies is a Dutch artist who mainly works in The Hague. His most important works are known as Concretism Art. Beyond an artist, he was the director of the Free Academy in The Hague. Chen Wenji is a Chinese artist, who was a professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, and is now working as an independent artist. Both of them have been well trained professionally in academy. The two artists have an academic background. However, the two artists are the ones who are never-ending explorers in their own field as an artist. Their works show their developing process of artistic style.Bob Bonies has been considered to be a successor of the “de Stijl” movement in as much as he did not just restrict himself to free art alone but extended his artistic work to architecture, industrial design, and art teaching, and exemplified the aim of those pioneers who wanted to use their artistic ideas for shaping their surroundings. Moreover, he is also to be considered a pioneer of the second generation, as his constructivist painting imparted a new impetus to the geometric direction of art in the Netherlands of the 1960s. The artist has extended his artistic work to architecture, industrial design, and art teaching.On the other hand, Chen Wenji's works are known among the minority in the Chinese art environment. The artist has exhibited his works at smaller scales across China.
