Division Gallery is currently hosting a solo exhibition by An Te Liu titled “New Life” in collaboration with Fundacion Marso, Mexico City. The exhibition showcases a collection of the artist’s latest works.“An Te Liu’s work is situated in the matrices of timelessness, knowledge and memory. Simultaneously referencing languages of modernist art and ancient artifacts, the bronze sculptures presented in this exhibition challenge how we perceive culture, value and time in physical form. The forms are carvings, mutations, and amalgamations that originate from humble origins such as packaging and found objects. Liu challenges perceptions around material culture, as both a system and product, while revealing the fine line which separates an artifact from an object which has simply outlived its importance. As an ensemble, these works compel the viewers to consider how ways of seeing and knowing shape our relationship to objects, across civilizations and epochs,” according to Fundacion Marso.Liu works in a variety of artistic mediums that when combined, fall under the general term installation art. Using a range of artistic strategies, he reveals unsuspected cultural resonances embedded in everyday found materials. An Te Liu was born in 1967 in Taiwan.
