La Galerie de l’Instant will present previously unseen photos of American actor Steve McQueen in its Paris space from June 19-September 16, but the show is just as much about the man nicknamed the “King of Cool” as the photographer, Barry Feinstein, behind the lens.Both men enjoyed wild success in their own right, McQueen with many Hollywood films, and Feinstein as a prolific celebrity photographer (not to mention his legendary photos of Bob Dylan). The two also shared a close friendship, which allowed Feinstein unfettered access to the star and a level of intimacy palpable in the photos.The photos on display at La Galerie de l’Instant stem from the duo’s love of motors, taken on the set of McQueen’s famous film “Bullitt.” The resulting photos capture McQueen’s intensity and aura riding motorbikes, racing cars, playing with guns, and a pickup game of Frisbee, with the idyllic backdrop of San Francisco.This exhibition marks the first time the photos will be seen in France and the first time Barry Feinstein’s work will be shown in France. The photos are the result of prodigious work by Feinstein’s wife in his archives after he passed away. The exhibition also marks the third show by La Galerie de l’Instant dedicated to the popular culture icon.“Unseen McQueen : Barry Feinstein” at La Galerie de l’Instant will be on view from June 19-September 16.
