Darren Knight Gallery will be hosting a solo exhibition by Rob McHaffie titled “Sea Breeze” from June 16, 2018.The exhibition will be featuring a collection of new works by Rob McHaffie. Born in 1978, in Melbourne, Rob McHaffie currently lives and works in Melbourne. He works in painting, watercolor and ceramics, contriving collaged subjects from porcelain models and magazine cut-outs into the confessions and social observations, which have come to characterize his practice. His works often incorporate humor and pathos through the artist’s piercing observations of humanity. His paintings offer up images of everyday life and often explore a folk sensibility. McHaffie has recently held solo exhibitions including “Hope for the Disheveled Seeker,” Brett McDowell Gallery, Dunedin, New Zealand (2010); “step out of character, become yourself,” Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney, Australia (2009); and “Slow me down,” at the University of Southern Queensland Arts Gallery, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia (2008). His work has been included in many group exhibitions including TCB Art Inc, Melbourne Art Fair, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne; Twenty20, UTS Gallery, Sydney; “Hell’s Bottom Drawer,” Hell Gallery, Melbourne; The Shiloh Project, S.H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney; “Nobody Knows: Simon Mee, Rob McHaffie, Anne Wallace,” Gold Coast City Gallery, Queensland, Australia; The Wallpaper Project, a touring exhibition curated by Simon Mee and William Wilding, Portrait exchange, Arts Project Australia, Melbourne (all 2010), and “Primavera 06: Exhibition of Young Australian Artists, Museum of Contemporary Art,” Sydney, Australia (2006).He recently curated the exhibition “Texticles: therapeutic text-pieces by men in the community” at TCB Art Inc. Melbourne (2009). McHaffie’s work is held in collections including the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane.While speaking about his work, the artist says, “You'll find bits and pieces of everyone, everything and nothing in my work.
