Ornamentum Gallery announced the acquisition of “Platter/Rather,” a large wall artwork by Jaydan Moore, exhibited at the December Design/Miami fair, by the board of the Carnegie Museum for the museum's permanent collection.Ornamentum Gallery curators said that in addition to being a visually striking artwork, this piece created an exciting bridge from their extensive historical silver collection to the realm of the contemporary. Many of Moore’s works can be found in the collections of the MFA Houston and the Honolulu Museum of Art, as well as the University of Little Rock Arkansas Galleries."I am motivated by how an object moves through the world, changing in meaning as it is passed down, and how it is cherished as its significance grows. This history of objects has led to my continued exploration of heirlooms. When I witness these historical functional wares in museums, antique shops, and junkyards, I imagine how their previous owners may have affected these objects,” said the artist. The artist focuses on deconstructing and reassembling found silver-plated tableware into new images. By fabricating a new form out of many fragments from stylistically and historically related objects, Moore has created a new image of what that object means to our society, a representation that takes all memories of its use into consideration.Ornamentum Gallery was founded in 2002 and exhibits a dynamic collection of contemporary jewelry as well as related objects and artworks. Over the years they have hosted numerous exhibitions yearly in one of the world’s largest gallery spaces dedicated specifically to contemporary jewelry/artworks where featured designers/artists often display their work in conceptual installations. Ornamentum is known as the source for intelligent, provocative, and historically important works from a roster of the most consequential international designers/artists — established and emerging.
