Galleria Alessandra Bonomo is currently hosting a solo exhibition by Margret H. Blondal, titled "Hemiola".The exhibition presents a series of drawings created in the last year and a site-specific installation. "Hemiola, from the Greek 'hemiolios,' meaning 'containing one and a half, is a term used in music to describe a rhythmic pattern of syncopated beats with two beats in the time of three or three beats in the time of two. Margret works in the gallery space altering the perception of volumes with her three-dimensional compositions. She is open-eyed for materials that attract her attention and that suggest a connection with her work.In her creative process, light redefines space in its plastic and rhythmic forms, the sculptures are born as a natural response to the new architecture. In the drawings of Margret H. Blondal, colors and minimal forms in the foreground refer to nature and the body, locating themselves once again on the crossroad between the domestic world and the natural. The delicate and evocative tension that is created becomes an ideal dwelling for her work, made of textiles and objects from the everyday, that emerge in the two environments like silent identities, fragments in continuous movement," says the gallery.Born in 1970, Margret H. Blondal graduated with a BFA from the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts in 1993 and an MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in 1997. She was granted the prestigious Richard Serra Award in 2002, was nominated for the Icelandic Art Awards in 2006 and was chosen for Manifesta 7. Through her sculpture, photography, and drawings, Margret seeks in her art to evoke a geology of the domestic. She encourages her viewers to see in the home the strata of matter and subtle accumulations, attesting not to eruptions or seismic movement, but the sheer everyday business of living. Her work has been exhibited at the MAC-Museum of Contemporary Art Chile(Santiago, Chile), the Plug-In Institute of Contemporary Art (Winnipeg, Canada), various European Galleries(Basel, Dublin, Bruxelles)and in the United States(New York, Richmond-Virginia, Fort Worth-Texas)The exhibition will be on view through September at Galleria Alessandra Bonomo, Via del Gesu, 62, 00186 Roma, Italy. For details visit: www.bonomogallery.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.www.blouinartinfo.com             Founder: Louise Blouin
