This summer, AFA Gallery brings “Wonderlust,” a group show featuring artworks by contemporary artists. The exhibition is on view through September 2, 2018, at New York. The featured artists include: Toni Brogan, Taezoo Park, Michael Sanzone studio, Stickymonger, and Crystal Wagner, among others.“The curatorial intention of this show is to inspire wonder through their use of unique processes, inviting viewers to join them in their exploration into the potential of unconventional materials,” says the gallery release. In “Wonderlust” artists use non-traditional materials in an unconventional and innovative manner. Take for instance, Taezoo Park, a new media artist, who explores the idea of an existent ‘character’ within technology, assembling abandoned computer parts into motion-activated sculptures; Michael Sanzone studio’s “Rotating Constructions” combine detailed woodworking and collage to create interactive cabinets of curiosities; Toni Brogan and Crystal Wagner use woven fiber and hand-cut paper creating contemporary abstract forms; mural artist Stickymonger works with vinyl and acrylic paint in depicting surreal, imagined worlds.“A video presentation of the featured artists’ large-scale commissioned projects accompanies the exhibition, inviting viewers to imagine the architectural potential of the works once they reach a monumental scale,” the gallery writes.Toni Brogan is known for her use of unusual materials into soft sculptures, such as computer parts and wires. She explores various textures and materials through interlocking threads, binding, and knotting to create entwined joints and spine-like wrapped pieces which develop into a larger sculptural work.Alexander Kellum, a visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York, works with porcelain. He molds clay into sumptuous, organic forms. The metallurgic coatings result in a miraculous luster. He has recently received commissions for permanent art installations at the flagship Christian Dior stores in Seoul, South Korea and Hong Kong, China, curated by Peter Marino.Thom Lussier works with ceramics exploring experimental finishes and techniques. He lives and works in New York City and Provincetown, MA.Pierre Matter is known as the Father of the “Steampunk” movement because his bronze sculptures are often embellished with scrap metals and recycled objects.Taezoo Park explores analog and digital technologies. He pushes new artistic forms through his unique use of digital media emphasizing the existent ‘character’ within forgotten technology.Michael Sanzone’s work contains several unique collages on double-sided wood blocks that are spun by hand, allowing for an almost endless series of possible combinations to be determined by the viewer.Stickymonger, a Brooklyn-based artist, is obsessed with converting spaces into imaginary worlds that emerge as giant mural installations.Crystal Wagner’s site-specific installations combine two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms using alternative materials. The exhibition runs through September 2, 2018, at AFA Gallery, New York. 54 Greene St, New York, NY 10013.For details visit: www.afanyc.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder Louise BlouinCourtesy: AFA Gallery
