Following a successful first solo exhibition at Art Basel Hong Kong 2014, veteran Singaporean artist Lee Wen opened his second one-man presentation on October 28 at iPreciation.Entitled “Songs Unsung,” the exhibition showcases paintings, drawings, and photography from the period 1990-2015 that represent a more intimate and personal side of Lee’ wide-ranging artistic output, in addition to giving viewers hints as to the creative process that underlies his well-known performative works and installations. Many of these pieces emerged out of residencies and performances presented in Kyoto (1995) and Chicago (2013).Of particular interest are two paintings entitled “Crucifixion” and “Hard Rain” that represent a medium that Lee himself rarely tackles. Executed in thick, rapid brushstrokes, these works demonstrate the artist’s unwavering attention to a certain handcrafted quality and a spontaneous, deliberately untutored mode of expression. As the title suggests, this exhibition is a grouping of artworks that have lain dormant and withheld from public exposure and scrutiny, inspired by universal, human experiences and a refreshingly guileless attempt to reach out to an audience with his inner reflections.“Lee Wen: Songs Unsung” runs October 28 through November 21, 2015 at iPreciation.Follow @ARTINFO_SEA
