Australia’s National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has announced that it will present a major exhibition of modern and contemporary artworks from New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) from June 8 to October 7, 2018 at NGV International – the sole international venue for the exhibition.“Masterworks from MoMA” will feature around 150 works by the likes of artists such as Paul Cézanne, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Edward Hopper, Jeff Koons, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Lyubov Popova, Mark Rothko, and Vincent van Gogh.According to the NGV, the exhibition will explore the emergence and development of major art movements throughout more than 130 years of artistic innovation, while at the same time reflect the wider technological, social, and political developments of the 20th and 21st centuries.The exhibition will reveal the ways in which artists have sought to be agents of change, transforming society and creating new worlds through their work, demonstrating how the development of new materials and technology has enabled artists to realise their visions in inventive ways.Tony Ellwood, Director, NGV said: “his exciting exhibition will showcase an unparalleled collection of modern and contemporary art and design.
