Matthew Marks Gallery in New York is hosting an exhibition titled “Suellen Rocca: Bare Shouldered Beauty, Works from 1965 to 1969” that will be on view through October 22, 2016.This is the first solo exhibition of Suellen Rocca’s works in New York, which includes 24 paintings, drawings and objects from the time when the artist was a part of ‘Hairy Who’, a six member group of Chicago-based artists, who organized five legendary exhibitions between 1966 and 1969. Several of the works of those exhibitions are also on view. Suellen Rocca’s works are characterized by an ecstatic approach to representation, juxtaposing human figures with wordplay and vernacular imagery. Her works radiate enthusiasm marked with a sense of longing for consumer products, exotic travel, and bodily sensations. The exhibition is on view at Matthew Marks Gallery, 523 West 24 Street, New York, NY 10011, United States.
