Richard Saltoun in London will be hosting an exhibition “Spotlight On: Li Yuan-Chia” that will be on view from October 4, 2016 through November 25, 2016.The exhibition is a retrospective dedicated to Li Yuan-Chia, one of China’s earliest pioneer of abstract and conceptual art. Curated by renowned scholar Diana Yeh, the exhibition will provide a comprehensive overview of Li’s work. Li left his native China to pursue his artistic vision, and under the influence of western artists from Italy and England, he developed a unique style which combined traditional Chinese calligraphy with abstraction. He went against the traditional art methods and practices in Taiwan and China and became actively engaged in the international art world. Focused on the spirit of Chinese culture and philosophy, in combination with an experimental aesthetics, Li created majestic works of art spanning painting, photography, sculpture and participatory kinetic installations. The show coincide with Frieze Spotlight Section exhibition that also features solo presentation of Li Yuan-Chia, as one of the most significant but under-recognized artist of 20th century.The exhibition will be on view at Richard Saltoun, 111 Great Titchfield Street, London W1W 6RY, United Kingdom.
