Well-known artist Simryn Gill’s first solo Australian exhibition in more than five years, titled 'Sweet Chariot' is on view at Brisbane’s Griffith University Art Gallery, South Brisbane and will run through November 12, 2016.Simryn Gill is known for her distinct compositions that involve an extensive range of media types and processes, including drawing, installation, and photography. The demonstration brings to light her most recent works created since 2014. The title of the exhibition is inspired by a selection of large black and white photographs, which represent the Strait of Malacca, captured from a fishing boat near the artist’s studio in Malaysia. Crafted along with Melbourne printmaker Trent Walter, a novel collection of relief prints, 'Pressing In', has also been put on display, which are impressions taken from the surfaces of pieces of timber eroded onto the same coast. The exhibition is on view at Brisbane’s Griffith University Art Gallery, Queensland College of Art, 226 Grey St, South Brisbane QLD 4101, Australia.
