'Poetry Passage# 4: I Am the Mouth' by Agnieszka Polska is currently on view at the National Gallery, Prague, through January 15, 2017.The exhibition presents a short animation video by Polish artist Polska where a disembodied pair of lips are intoning ‘I am the mouth that produces waves’. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s theatrical production ‘Not I’ and based upon a scientific description of sound waves moving through different materials, this exhibition is centered upon language, the sensuality of sound and the materiality of voice. The exhibition generates a fictive dialogue with French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy’s seminal essay/play, a meditation on body, voice and speech, ‘Vox Clamans in Deserto’, expanding the relational space, built up by the voice’s architectural and communal ambition. Polska’s cinematic work and Jean-Luc Nancy’s literary construction of a presence expedites for the language’s site of exposure and the connecting points of the writing’s and speaking’s liminal conditions. The exhibition is on view at Trade Fair Palace, Dukelských Hrdinů 530/47, 170 00 Praha 7-Holešovice, Czech Republic.
