Gana Art Center presents “Matter And Mass — Art Furniture” at the gallery’s Seoul venue. The exhibition includes works by Byung-Hoon Choi, the pioneer of ‘art furniture’ design in Korea since 1990s, and 13 other art furniture designers. Choi is Korea’s representative for furniture design at home and abroad and brings “Art Furniture” to the forefront. His works are housed in major institutions all over the world such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art Korea, Leeum Samsung Art Museum, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Vitra Design Museum in Germany. The 13 artists participating in this exhibition, under the direction of Professor Choi, have their PhD degree or are PhD candidate of Woodworking and Furniture. Most of them are artists and play an active role as instructors at various universities or furniture designers in the industrial field. Their participation adds more meaning to this exhibition. Gana Art Center had been founded in 1983 and had emerged as one of the first major art galleries established in Korea. Since its inauguration, they have played an integral role in the rapidly growing art market in Korea. For the past three decades now, they have remained as one of Korea’s most prestigious and influential art institutions today. Though the gallery is primarily a contemporary art gallery, they have curated exhibitions covering a wide range of genres including modern, contemporary, and various art scenes. These include both established and emerging Korean and international artists. The exhibition is on view through August 15, 2017 at Gana Art Center, 28, Pyungchang 30-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. For details, visit: http://ganaart.com Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
