Hew Locke, Edward Tyler Nahem’s home artist along with 6 other celebrated artists mentor young artists at 57th Venice Biennale in Venice.David Adjaye, Sokari Douglas Camp, Ellen Gallagher, Isaac Julien, Hew Locke, Vong Phaophanit And Yinka Shonibare Mentor young artists For Venice Biennale, the first ever Diaspora Pavilion at Venice Biennale featuring Britain’s emerging Bame artists and their mentors.Diaspora Pavilion is presented by International Curators Forum (ICF) and University of the Arts London (UAL). The idea was conceived as a challenge to the popularity of the national pavilions within the organizing structure of international biennale. The idea could be shaped into the occurrence owing to the get together of the nineteen artist who came together to practice, learn, and co-create with each other’s help. The co-creation and the coming together expand their vision and their artistic itinerary; It’s a help-in hand in many ways towards their collective artistic growth. The practice also complicates and even destabilizes the term, ‘diaspora’, but never fails to highlight the continued relevance of the term that speaks of a lived reality. The pavilion is also helping the formation of a part of the 22-month long joint ICF and UAL project ‘Diaspora Platform’. The platform is designed to enable mentoring and professional development of the twelve UK based emerging artists by the distinguished mentorship of eleven selected mentors. The works of these young artists engage with the theme of the topic Diaspora. Durin the length of the project, these practitioners will take part in group forum, one-on-one mentoring sessions and group master-classes. The selected participants and eight of the mentors will all showcase their work in the Diaspora Pavilion, in an exhibition curated by David A. Bailey and Jessica Taylor. The exhibition is being showcased in Venice 2017 from May 13 through November 26, 2017 at the Palazzo Pisani S. Marina during the 57th Venice Biennale. For details, visit: www.edwardtylernahemfineart.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the artworks.
