Galería Helga de Alvear will soon be hosting a solo exhibition by Ana Prada, titled "Perfection".The exhibition will be showcasing a collection of Prada's works. The title of the exhibition is an emphatic declaration of Prada's intentions, defining her artistic practice. The artist aims at achieving the perfect vase, the perfect spoon, and the perfect candle. These dreams drive her to be confronted with what can be called the problem of Plato’s chair: all the chairs are determined by the idea of the chair, all breads by the idea of bread. For the artist, the most important aspect of her relationship with perfection is how she confronts the lack of perfection, encouraging infinite repetition and modification. Thus, the pieces presented at the exhibition are based in the constant and endless search for the perfect object, or at least the fleeting moment of perfection. Ana Prada has always taken everyday, domestic things as her source material. These she amends - most typically by cutting them - to mask their identity and their utilitarian function. She works with the cut until she finds in the thing its potential as a component for a new, sculptural form. Born in 1965, the artist currently lives and works in London. Her work has been shown at Sala Parpalló, Valencia, Spain (2010); Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León~MUSAC, León, Spain (2007); Jerwood Space, London (1999); The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (1998).The exhibition will be on view through November 25, 2017, at Galería Helga de Alvear, Calle del Dr. Fourquet, 12, 28012 Madrid, Spain. For details visit: www.helgadealvear.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the artworks.
