Wetterling Gallery presents a new exhibition by the legendary British Pop artist Allen Jones titled “80 Not Out.” The exhibit features the artist’s paintings and sculptural works. Known as a doyen of abstraction, Jones has found different ways of portraying the female body. He has been excelling in his craft since the past five decades and has always garnered the interest of audiences and critics alike. His prowess has remained undeterred all this while. He takes a cue from popular culture for his visual aesthetic that is replete with vibrancy, eroticism, dance, and musical joy. His works have long been an inspiration for films and have served as an influential motif in pop culture. The man is an octogenarian today yet his recent creations resonate of the playfulness the artist is known for, and as an artist, he still seems to be searching for more, even at his age. Jones attributes the development of his visual imagery to the pop culture scene of the 60’s and eroticism was developing as an individual entity by itself; he also feels that the philosophies of Jung and Nietzsche helped him understand the subject with a new perspective. Thus was born the forniphilic series and from here there was no looking back for the artist. Born in Southampton, England, Allen Jones studied at Hornsey College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London, UK. It was in 1963 that he received the prestigious Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the Paris Biennale. The exhibition is on view through November 9, 2017, at Wetterling Gallery, Kungsträdgården 3 Stockholm, Arkivgatan 4, GothenburgFor details, visit http://www.wetterlinggallery.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
