Güçlü Öztekin's exhibition "Topsy-Turvy! Selpakla Gorili Bitirdim!" is on view at Dirmart, Istanbul.Artist Güçlü Öztekin often uses found objects such as raw material and refers to his paintings as a kind of recycling. He systematically stereotypes, instead of explaining his production process — it suffices for him to say they are plain and simple. His oeuvre is like a realm where division between art and life disappears, a practice as an extension of daily life, beyond descriptions. He muses, “I do not work to paint, I do work to make the space work. The space creates the painting.” Not surprisingly, his paintings are very clear, simple, corporal, and even banal. Güçlü Öztekin is acclaimed for his large-scale works made with materials comprising styrofoam, kraft paper, etc. He tends to employ materials that are within his reach as a pure act of recycling. He says that an artwork is always in its raw, crude form until the time it is exhibited; in order to acquire its full effect at an exhibition, the work must be reprocessed.Öztekin is a member of an artist collective HA ZA VU ZU, founded in 2005.The exhibition is on view through January 21, 2018 at Dirimart, Irmak Cad. 1-9, Dolapdere, 34440, İstanbul, Turkey. For details, visit: http://www.dirimart.com/en/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
