The Thai artist Korakrit Arunanondchai develops and expands upon the ideas he delevoped for a show last year for his latest show at the CLEARING gallery in New York. “Our bandages coming loose / Panic song, in a room filled with people with funny names 4 (NO MORE HORNY SPRINGS)” is the title of a new sculpture,  on view at the gallery’s New York venue until April 22, 2018.Using an elaborate personal symbology and a keen sense of injustice, Arunanondchai has built a series of vitrine sculptures built on top of an architectural model of the United Nations, which he describes as a “post WW2 bandage that is coming loose — loose on the scar that is human history itself.” The sculptures, he says, reflect on the United Nations “as a social contract amongst various nations of the world, to keep peace.” The show at CLEARING New York consists of one of these sculptures.A related project, “A workshop for peace: nowhere to go: let the song hold us: in a room filled with people with funny names 4” will open at CLEARING in Brussels on April 16. It will have related sculptures and the video from the 2017 show “with history in a room filled with people with funny names 4.”The writer and critic Annie Godfrey Larmon noted that the artist had developed a unique “cosmology,” “wading into such themes as global capitalism, versioning, the reign of the optic, animism, and yet-incalculable expressions of our material world.”  The previous exhibition, she wrote, “resonates with a familiar melancholy that attends moments in which our subjectivity dilates to the extent that we lose ourselves.”Korakrit Arunanondchai was born in 1986 in Bangkok, Thailand. He lives and works in New York and Bangkok. He has a fine arts Masters from Columbia University and his work has been showcased by solo exhibitions in the US, Europe and Asia and included in many collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. The exhibition will run through April 22, 2018, at CLEARING gallery, 396 Johnson Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11206, USA.For details, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/clearing-gallery/overviewClick on the slideshow to have a sneak peek of the artist’s work. Founder Louise Blouin: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/artists/louise-blouin--2953510
