Daine Singer is currently hosting a group exhibition titled "Winter Blues".The exhibition presents a collection of works that explore the emotional depths of the color blue." Blue is all around us: it is the colour of the sky and the sea. But the colour blue appears throughout history as more than just a physiological phenomenon of light; it is a symbol, a state of being and thinking – a vehicle through which to express the depths of human emotion...To ‘have the blues’ is an idiom that commonly refers to feelings of sadness, melancholy, longing and loss. Artists, writers and musicians have long been fascinated with capturing the blues, through paint, poetry, prose, and song. In this spirit, Winter Blues brings together paintings by Renee Estee, Merryn Lloyd, Renee Cosgrave, Rafaella McDonald, Gervaise Netherway and Jahnne Pasco-White, in an aesthetically and emotionally blue exhibition," says the gallery.Renee Estee is an Australian based artist who has exhibited her works at several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Daine Singer.Born in Melbourne, Australia, Merryn Lloyd is currently living and working in Canberra, Australia. Merryn Lloyd works with beeswax and pigments to create paintings through a process of accretion, building up, mixing, reworking and scratching back into the textural surfaces of her works.Renee Cosgrave was born in New Zealand of Irish, Scottish and Maori descent (Ngati Tuwharetoa), and now lives and works in Melbourne. She graduated with an Honors degree of Bachelor of Fine Art, from Monash University in 2009. Cosgrave paints mainly on canvas but has worked directly on walls and windows indoors and out – a steadfastly expansive, and at times, deliberately juxtaposed practice.Rafaella has a painting and sculptural practice and works across gallery settings, public spaces, on clothing and in collaborative performance. Her practice is concerned with the gestural elements of materials, documenting playful and joyous interactions between materials and the body as moments of agency amongst precariousness.Gervaise Netherway studied Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne). His works brim with abstract formalities and semiotics that switch between recognition and obscurity.Jahnne Pasco-White has completed residencies at: Artspace, Auckland; Nes Artist Residency, Skagastrond, Iceland; Testing Grounds, Melbourne and Rome Art Program, Rome. She is co-founder of Brunswick Lake, an independent project space in Melbourne, has a BFA (Drawing) from RMIT (2010) and is currently completing Honors at VCA.The exhibition will be on view through June 23, 2018, at Daine Singer, 325 Flinders Ln, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia.
